Blogs

What is a blog? How can it be used within a classroom to enhance the learning and engagement within a classroom while still being an activity with which the students enjoy and find useful for their education? A blog can be used in many different ways but in short, a blog is a website maintained by an individual which documents regular entries and commentary. This can include text, pictures, videos and links to other websites and ‘expert’ blogs. Blogs allows students to organize their understanding of the learning in chronological order. A blog can be used to reflect on recent event, news, a particular subject as well as serving as an online journal where students can record their thoughts and understanding of their school classes and their day in general. The ability to leave comments and to give feedback is an important advantage of blogs when applying them to and educational context. This makes them an excellent tool to use within a classroom as the students can reflect and show their learning and understanding of the given subject being taught with the classroom teacher able to give feedback on a more frequent basis.

Website contains a basic explanation of what a blog is and its main differences from a website - I found this helpful in wrapping my head around blogs as I haven't used them before! This website is also where I got my image from.
